ADVOCACY PROGRAM

LIFE IN TRAINING

At VIA, we are all invested in our students' development and future success. The advisory program teaches essential life skills needed to become responsible, self-sufficient citizens. Issues covered include leadership, communication, conflict resolution, study and research skills, health, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, emotional intelligence, and ethical issues. In addition, students will have the opportunity to exercise their entrepreneurial creativity first by doing case studies of diverse companies and organizations, and then by actually choosing and developing an entrepreneurial initiative. We believe these and other topics will enhance the development of each student affectively and developmentally, preparing them for the college experience and beyond.

Students will meet regularly with their peers in small discussion groups, facilitated by a teacher who also serves as an advisor. The advisor is a central part of the VIA experience, overseeing and coordinating all aspects of a student's academic and social life. The advisory program will closely align with the college-counseling program. Together, the two programs will provide excellent, comprehensive services for our students.
